KSB Medical Mission – The Final Chapter

ksbpulseUncategorized5 Comments

My job for the KSB Medical Mission was very straightforward.  Bring back the same nine people that left the KSB parking lot on April 14th. Mission accomplished. To tie a bow around the trip, I would like to focus on three themes. The Peruvian People Pride, Dignity, Humor, Patience.  These are a few of the words that come to mind when I think of the people our team served.  The children are beautiful, and very happy.  The people are kind and grateful.  Even though our team’s inability to speak Spanish hampered communication, it was clear that the people were pleased … Read More

KSB Medical Mission – Day 8 – by Pratip Nag, M.D., Chief Medical Officer

This is the story of a soccer ball. The night before I left Dixon, my sons Jacob and Dylan deflated a soccer ball for me to take to Peru. A father is always proud when his children emulate the same values – they had already sent different types of chocolates and more than hundred matchbox cars – so I happily packed the soccer ball.   On the way to Cusco I imagined different ways I could use the soccer ball to have fun with the kids and adults we will see.  I imagined us playing soccer with the kids or … Read More

The 2018 ACHE Congress – Inside The Ropes

ksbpulseUncategorizedLeave a Comment

What is it like to be inside the ropes at ACHE Congress?  Some observations and thoughts from last week’s gathering of our nation’s health care leaders at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago. The Board After personally serving with this group for two years as Governor, this gathering of rock stars is more than a board of directors.  It feels like family.  I am a student of great leadership.  The learning I gather from watching Past Chairmen Ed Lamb, Chuck Stokes and current Chair David Olson feels like a doctoral degree in how to lead.  The people that make up our … Read More

Does social media work? A CEO’s Dilemma

ksbpulseUncategorizedLeave a Comment

Google, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram. These are but a few of the available mediums for communication. Are any of them effective? A 2014 study by Social Media Examiner shows “92% of marketers have increased their exposure through social media and 80% had positive results in higher traffic to their site.”  According to the study, increased traffic results in greater brand loyalty, marketplace insights, growing business partnerships and improved sales. That’s great if we are selling golf balls, but does if matter if we are selling hospital services? Image matters. KSB Hospital has built our reputation over 120+ years.  It … Read More

KSB Corporate Wellness Team reaching out directly to the community

While the bulk of KSB employees are busy caring for and supporting patients in our hospital and clinic sites across the community, I’m excited to share that our Corporate Wellness team has been busy the last few weeks at some of our area’s largest companies; BorgWarner and Wahl Clipper. On February 17, nearly 200 employees of BorgWarner attended one of six 30-minute presentations led by the KSB Hospital Corporate Wellness team and KSB Medical Group Physician Assistant Courtney Teller. Teller spoke about the importance of preventative healthcare checks and encouraged employees to take advantage of their free annual physical. To … Read More

My own personal Super Bowl

Super Bowl 50 is about a week away; players achieve their life-long dream of competing at the highest level of their profession. My Super Bowl happens the last Wednesday of every month. I get to play in my Super Bowl twelve times a year. You see, my Super Bowl is the KSB board meeting. This monthly gathering is a chance for me to share the great work the KSB Family is doing and ask for feedback and suggestions on moving our organization forward. KSB Hospital is blessed with a board that strongly believes in the concept of leading strategically and … Read More

Care the way it is supposed to be

ksbpulseUncategorizedLeave a Comment

When I am sick, I own the responsibility for feeling better. I rely on health care professionals at KSB Hospital to coach me back to optimal health. This week I saw this process in action. KSB’s Leadership team has committed to spending two hours twice per week “In the Work”. This gives us the opportunity to break away from meetings and office time and visit where care is being delivered. I spent Tuesday morning observing our Interdisciplinary Team. This team is composed of the attending physician, the attending nurse, a pharmacist, a social worker, and a nurse from the Quality … Read More

Goodbye 2015… Hello 2016!

ksbpulseUncategorizedLeave a Comment

New Year’s provides us all a chance to think about what we’ve been through, where we are today, and what lies ahead for the coming year. Some things change dramatically over time, but our core principles remain. Here at KSB, our job today is as it has always been: to provide the best possible care for our patients. No two patients are the same. Some encounter KSB in a doctor’s office, some in the Emergency Department, and some during a hospital stay. Regardless of the setting, when a patient enters our doors, they’re looking for competence, compassion, caring, and respect. … Read More

Partnering to provide world-class healthcare

ksbpulseUncategorizedLeave a Comment

“The best partnerships aren’t dependent on a mere common goal but on a shared path of equality, desire, and no small amount of passion.“  KSB Hospital’s mission is to restore, maintain and enhance care by providing superior care now and in the future. We have a long history of expanding the care we provide by partnering with other organizations. Northern Illinois Home Medical Supply, with retail locations in Dixon as well as Sterling (pictured above) along with The Northern Illinois Cancer Treatment Center are examples of partnerships between KSB Hospital and CGH Medical Center. I wrote in this space earlier … Read More

Recapping the 2015 Employee Meetings

ksbpulseUncategorized3 Comments

KSB Hospital takes time during the first week of December to host our annual employee meetings. Our team travels to the Dixon Theatre and provides our KSB family with a review of the current year and a look ahead to the next. During my portion of the presentation I took the opportunity to express my frustration. I had stood before this group last year at our employee meetings and shared that there is no active affiliation activity.  I have been transparent with this message at quarterly employee forums, at meals with the administrators, in our newsletter as well as on this blog. … Read More
