KSB Hospital announces partnership with The Dixon Family YMCA

Saturday is a big day for KSB Hospital and The Dixon Family YMCA, as we announce a 10-year partnership between our organizations. KSB and The Y enjoy a shared history of success. One of my mentors, Dale Presley, told me stories about a period in the 1960’s when KSB paid the utility bills and provided maintenance work for The Y during a time of hardship for that organization. Countless KSB team members have served The Y as board members, through fundraising efforts, and as volunteer coaches. Six years ago KSB formalized its relationship with a partnership that provided financial assistance … Read More

I have countless reasons to be proud of Team KSB and the miracles that happen here every day.  Following is an especially exciting example of just that type of herculean effort.  Thank you to everyone that played a role in the event.  Special thanks to KSB’s Grace Crowe for coordinating the day.  Grace authored the recap below. Dave   KSB Volunteers recently teamed up with the American Red Cross, Delete Blood Cancer, and the Woodward/Bond families to show our support for a sweet little girl, Greer, who is fighting Leukemia. Greer is embarking on a new round of treatment to prepare … Read More

Super Bowl 50 is about a week away; players achieve their life-long dream of competing at the highest level of their profession. My Super Bowl happens the last Wednesday of every month. I get to play in my Super Bowl twelve times a year. You see, my Super Bowl is the KSB board meeting. This monthly gathering is a chance for me to share the great work the KSB Family is doing and ask for feedback and suggestions on moving our organization forward. KSB Hospital is blessed with a board that strongly believes in the concept of leading strategically and … Read More

KSB After Dark, by Nursing Coordinator Jill Scheffler

At KSB Hospital, like many health care settings, having staffed to work the night shift is crucial to maintaining quality patient care. While working the night shift may not appeal to all nurses; some thoroughly enjoy the setting. According to Navigate Nursing, 30 percent of nurses work the night shift and choose it for greater personal flexibility or higher pay compared to daytime jobs. Nurses claim calmer floors, increased patient-oriented care, and the opportunity to practice more autonomously as reasons for choosing to work overnight. Have you ever wondered what happens on the night shift at KSB Hospital? Do you … Read More

New Year’s provides us all a chance to think about what we’ve been through, where we are today, and what lies ahead for the coming year. Some things change dramatically over time, but our core principles remain. Here at KSB, our job today is as it has always been: to provide the best possible care for our patients. No two patients are the same. Some encounter KSB in a doctor’s office, some in the Emergency Department, and some during a hospital stay. Regardless of the setting, when a patient enters our doors, they’re looking for competence, compassion, caring, and respect. … Read More

Recapping the 2015 Employee Meetings

ksbpulseUncategorized3 Comments

KSB Hospital takes time during the first week of December to host our annual employee meetings. Our team travels to the Dixon Theatre and provides our KSB family with a review of the current year and a look ahead to the next. During my portion of the presentation I took the opportunity to express my frustration. I had stood before this group last year at our employee meetings and shared that there is no active affiliation activity.  I have been transparent with this message at quarterly employee forums, at meals with the administrators, in our newsletter as well as on this blog. … Read More

Who makes up KSB Hospital’s board of directors?

“This ordinance, dated November 1, 1895, stated that the Mayor, with the approval of the City Council, appoint a board of nine women directors chosen from the citizens at large, which would be authorized to accept the donations of money and real or personal property in the name of the hospital.” Some things have changed since that original charter written 120 years ago creating the first board of directors for KSB Hospital. Today’s board is comprised of four women and seven men. And we still accept the donations of money and real or personal property! Here are the dedicated men and … Read More

Patients come to KSB Hospital to feel better. Quality is assumed. As the new Director of Quality/Medical Staff at KSB Hospital, it is my job to make sure that assumption is correct. As a newcomer to this community, I am so happy to have found a very compassionate, quality-driven organization that focuses on its journey to becoming a Top 100 hospital in the country.  It is refreshing and exciting to witness the commitment of KSB to be a leader in healthcare services and a leader in quality healthcare results, as challenging as it can be. One challenge in healthcare is … Read More

A Note from the Farmers’ Daughter – by KSB Board Member Katie Pratt

Last week I stopped by my parents’ farm for lunch. Dad came in from morning chores with his finger wrapped in duct tape. Just another farm injury, like so many others, taken care of with what was handy — duct tape, wire, twine, super glue. Growing up a farm kid, I’ve seen it all, and now I witness My Farmer’s (i.e., my husband’s) doctoring skills often. My family often jokes about a farmer’s reluctance to see a doctor. But in reality, a farmer is just as concerned with health and well-being as the rest of us. KSB’s service area is … Read More
