Rural Hospitals – Caring For Our Communities

ksbpulseUncategorizedLeave a Comment

Our community suffered a horrific farm accident this week.  This follows far too closely on the heels of a house fire that claimed the lives of a family in late October. Rural hospitals play a special role in tragedies.  KSB Hospital’s team of professionals jump into action when a crisis hits, preparing as soon as news is heard of an event.  We train on a regular basis to be prepared to handle whatever comes our way, and when tragedy strikes we are ready to provide care.  The worse feeling is when we find out the injuries were simply too extreme … Read More

Driving Away The Flu

Linda Clemen, Chief Nursing Office to me: I want to do a drive by flu shot clinic. Me: OK. That was the conversation that launched a program that served 673 patients over four Wednesday’s in October, right at the front entrance of KSB Hospital. The KSB Nursing Division took this project on and made it their own, often with volunteer hours dedicated to improving the health of the communities we serve. Pictured are Jerry and Venessa Schnake of Dixon.  They were the lucky 500th vaccination and received a gift certificate to Lori’s Gift, a retail store inside KSB Hospital. I … Read More

Saturday evening KSB Hospital took over the Riverfront in Downtown Dixon to celebrate our successes and encourage financial support of KSB Hospital. Nancy Varga, Jan Woodward, Joan Melzer and Robin Canode spearheaded preparations for an incredible evening of drinks, dining and music.  Thank you for your hard work on behalf of KSB Hospital. I reminded those in attendance of the outstanding work the KSB Family is doing in increasing quality, improving the patient experience, and offering value to our patients. We need your help to bring to our patients and their families, as well as our communities, those “value-added” services, … Read More

While the bulk of KSB employees are busy caring for and supporting patients in our hospital and clinic sites across the community, I’m excited to share that our Corporate Wellness team has been busy the last few weeks at some of our area’s largest companies; BorgWarner and Wahl Clipper. On February 17, nearly 200 employees of BorgWarner attended one of six 30-minute presentations led by the KSB Hospital Corporate Wellness team and KSB Medical Group Physician Assistant Courtney Teller. Teller spoke about the importance of preventative healthcare checks and encouraged employees to take advantage of their free annual physical. To … Read More

Care You Need, When You Want It. KSB Increases Access to Patients through Extended Hours and Additional Weekend Appointments.   KSB Hospital knows that giving an outstanding patient experience requires providing more than just world-class clinical care. Not only do we want our patients to receive high quality care, but it’s important patients be seen when they want it, and need it. That’s why KSB Hospital has been working to expand clinic operation hours to entice new patients and make it more convenient for current patients to get an appointment. “It’s tough when you work full time Monday through Friday,” said … Read More

I have countless reasons to be proud of Team KSB and the miracles that happen here every day.  Following is an especially exciting example of just that type of herculean effort.  Thank you to everyone that played a role in the event.  Special thanks to KSB’s Grace Crowe for coordinating the day.  Grace authored the recap below. Dave   KSB Volunteers recently teamed up with the American Red Cross, Delete Blood Cancer, and the Woodward/Bond families to show our support for a sweet little girl, Greer, who is fighting Leukemia. Greer is embarking on a new round of treatment to prepare … Read More

This monthly gathering is a chance for me to share the great work the KSB Family is doing and ask for feedback and suggestions on moving our organization forward. KSB Hospital is blessed with a board that strongly believes in the concept of leading strategically and … Read More

Goodbye 2015… Hello 2016!

New Year’s provides us all a chance to think about what we’ve been through, where we are today, and what lies ahead for the coming year. Some things change dramatically over time, but our core principles remain. Here at KSB, our job today is as it has always been: to provide the best possible care for our patients. No two patients are the same. Some encounter KSB in a doctor’s office, some in the Emergency Department, and some during a hospital stay. Regardless of the setting, when a patient enters our doors, they’re looking for competence, compassion, caring, and respect. … Read More

Partnering to provide world-class healthcare

“The best partnerships aren’t dependent on a mere common goal but on a shared path of equality, desire, and no small amount of passion.“  KSB Hospital’s mission is to restore, maintain and enhance care by providing superior care now and in the future. We have a long history of expanding the care we provide by partnering with other organizations. Northern Illinois Home Medical Supply, with retail locations in Dixon as well as Sterling (pictured above) along with The Northern Illinois Cancer Treatment Center are examples of partnerships between KSB Hospital and CGH Medical Center. I wrote in this space earlier … Read More
