A $16 million project expanded its surgery and emergency departments by 30,000 square feet. This means not only bigger patient rooms, but more of them. Yesterday afternoon we welcomed the people of Mt. Morris to an Open House at the newly re-branded KSB Hospital – Mt. Morris Clinic. The clinic had been operated by the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford for years, but a recent agreement led to KSB Hospital taking charge of the facility while maintaining it as a teaching site for the college. The New York Times published a story last Thursday about what makes a great hospital so great. It’s a good reminder that just as we follow these stats and measures internally, the public is also interested in hospital quality and patient satisfaction. If we ever thought that our benchmarks, surveys, and reports were just read by insiders, we need to think again.  These measurements continually attract significant media attention.
