KSB Hospital and the KSB Medical Group have a strong ongoing relationship with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, primarily through our Dixon Rural Training Track residency program. We’re excited to expand that partnership through a new arrangement at the Mt. Morris Clinic. Our strategy in recent years has been to grow our primary care network by recruiting more family medicine physicians and operating clinics in surrounding communities. Today we’re taking another step in that direction. We’re excited to announce that the KSB Hospital – Mt. Morris Clinic will join the KSB family of clinics on October 1.  The full press release that will be sent to the public on Wednesday is below.

KSB Hospital Announces Partnership at Mount Morris Clinic
KSB Medical Group to offer convenient, quality care to Mount Morris area residents

DIXON, Ill. – Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital and the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford will expand their partnership through a joint venture at Mount Morris in which KSB will take responsibility for the operations at the clinic. A joint press conference announcing the partnership will be held August 31 at 2 p.m. at the College of Medicine, 1601 Parkview Avenue, Rockford.

Mount Morris is a community of 3,000 located 25 miles southwest of Rockford and 16 miles north of Dixon. The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford currently operates a Primary Care Clinic teaching site at 405 Charles Avenue in Mount Morris. Effective October 1, KSB Hospital will assume responsibility for operations at the Mount Morris Clinic. While KSB Hospital will bring Mount Morris into its family of clinics, it will continue to serve as a teaching site for the College of Medicine.

“Establishing a KSB Medical Group presence in Mount Morris is a natural step for us,” said KSB Hospital President/CEO Dave Schreiner, “We have clinics in Amboy, Ashton, Polo and Oregon, and the addition of Mount Morris helps us serve the area with more convenient, high-quality healthcare.”

As a teaching site, the Mount Morris Clinic provides second, third and fourth year medical students the opportunity to learn valuable skills in a real-world clinic setting.

“The Mount Morris Clinic has been a valuable part of our medical education program for about 40 years,” said Martin Lipsky, Dean of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, “We have a strong partnership with KSB Hospital through the rural training track and medicine program and we’re confident this project will be a success for the community and our students.”

The expanded partnership at the KSB Hospital – Mt. Morris Clinic will add Ben Shepherd, MD, to the existing clinical staff of Vivek Kantayya, MD, Loyd Wollstadt, MD, Frank Nicolosi, MD and Patricia Nordman, a family nurse practitioner. Dr. Shepherd will practice family medicine and psychiatry full time at the clinic. Laboratory and x-ray services will continue to be offered. Ben Shepherd is a Dixon-native and recent graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine and of the University of Iowa family medicine and psychiatry program.

“Dr. Shepherd brings skill and enthusiasm to this new project,” said Kevin Marx, Chief Practice Officer at KSB Hospital, “He’s a local guy who knows the area and will be able to serve the community of Mount Morris very well.”

KSB Hospital is an 80-bed acute care facility offering a wide range of ancillary services. KSB Medical Group is a multi-specialty practice with more than 60 physicians in 10 locations around the Sauk Valley area. From obstetrics to home care, from surgery to family medicine clinics, KSB Hospital and the KSB Medical Group offer comprehensive healthcare services to meet the needs of our community. Time to add another "you heard it here first" about the changes in our cooperation with Rochelle hospital in the office that used to be where Dr Jain practiced… And his move to return full time primary care to Polo.
