“They were a great comfort to my family…”

Providing excellent patient care takes on a new meaning when we’re caring for a member of the KSB family. Below is a letter of thanks from Dwight Oltmanns (Marketing) for the care and compassion he saw during a recent visit. Thanks for sharing, Dwight!

– Dave
Dear Dave,
I want to express my gratification and thanks for the work KSB’s Cardiology Department performed in diagnosing my recent problem and acting upon it immediately. Nancy and I both credit the work of Dr. El Bzour, Peter Schalk and the KSB Cath Lab for literally saving my life.

As they were getting ready to transfer me by ambulance to St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Peter informed me that my “widowmaker,” or left main artery, was completely blocked. In other words, I was living on borrowed time and their diagnosis during the angiogram saved my life.

I also can’t say enough about the professionalism, good nature and kindness of the cath lab staff, including Nicole Wyatt, Lindsay Spinelli and Emily Dempsey. Their presence, and their work, made the entire experience stress-free and painless for me. They also were a great comfort to my family, Nancy and Alyssa.

So, too, was Chaplain Rev. Dr. Vinnie Marrandino a great comfort to Nancy. He met with her in private after she had received the news from Dr. El Bzour and then visited and prayed with me and Nancy before I left for Rockford. Finally, a nurse who never identified herself but just happened to be passing by stopped when she noticed Nancy was quite upset. This nurse also took the time to offer comfort and support to Nancy in a time of great need.

After I was released from the hospital and returned home, I was under the care of KSB’s Home Health Care Department for a couple of weeks. The knowledge, professionalism and support of Peggy and Leanna were greatly appreciated. Peggy specifically reviewed my blood sugar levels and worked with Dr. Hernandez to get my treatment adjusted properly.

I have felt from the first day I started at KSB back in 2009 that I was fortunate to work for this great organization. Now, having experienced first-hand the level of health care they deliver to their patients, I can add that I am fortunate that I was in the hands of all of these professionals. Thank you to all of them.

As an aside, I must also thank my Primary Care Physician, Dr. Hernandez, for getting this whole ball rolling by scheduling me an appointment with Dr. El Bzour to initially assess and address my condition. I have complete confidence in the entire KSB staff and they are to be commended. Again, thanks to KSB for everything.

I, too, am grateful for the excellent care that Dwight received recently. Dwight and I have been colleagues and friends for close to 10 years – long before he joined the Marketing Department. He is a true professional in every sense of the word and a valuable asset to KSB. We are fortunate to have him as an employee!
