KSB’s “Plus 2” Commitment by KSB Chief Nursing Officer Linda Clemen
Access is a key component of the KSB strategic plan. To increase access to our community, physicians and clinic staff have been challenged with opening up time to see an additional two patients per day. It’s our goal to get patients the right care at the right time, every time, and this challenge is a step toward reaching that goal.
This “2+ Challenge” began in October. Providers looked at volume, processes, and operating hours to see what areas could be improved to open up additional appointment times. The staff has welcomed the challenge and worked with providers to find options to increase access to their areas.
Through this challenge, we’ve learned that giving the right care at the right time means changing some of our operating hours to fit better the needs of our community. Some clinics have added morning, evening, and weekend slots a few days a month. To make it easier on the patient, we have some specialists traveling to Oregon a few days a month to see patients who want care without the travel.
Though we’re only two months into this challenge, we see great results. This challenge has the potential to increase access for 80-100 new patients. The staff has rallied with their providers to accommodate these patients This has built a stronger sense of comradery between staff and physicians.
At the end of the day, it’s all about the patient and their needs. KSB is working diligently to serve its mission to restore, maintain, and enhance health by providing superior care now and in the future. To do this, access must stay on the forefront. We have to get patients into their doctors in a reasonable time that meet their needs. We’re committed to that mission, and we’re committed to our patients and we look forward to better meeting the needs of our community as this challenge gets fully underway.
