This past weekend I had the chance to work with undergraduate students at a weekend retreat in Minnesota. These students were “up-and-comers” in my fraternity, poised to take leadership positions at colleges around the country in the upcoming academic year.
I found the students to be engaging, fun, thoughtful, loud, energetic and requiring of very little sleep.
The weekend consisted of coaching, challenging the norm, encouraging, listening and, as evidenced by the attached picture, team events, such as the one shown which I titled “throw the old, fat guy over the fence”.
I left Minnesota with one concept firmly in mind: this age group many of us are so worried about have a tremendous amount of talent, enthusiasm, ethics, and honor.
It was very rewarding to see the student’s progression throughout the weekend. I know I certainly learned a great deal.
