The KSB Joint Academy is a special class designed to help patients prepare for their total hip or knee replacement surgery. This integrated team approach to patients’ care helps support and guide them through their total joint replacement – from pre-operative all the way through physical therapy. The Joint Academy’s experienced team of orthopedic nurses, physical and occupational therapists, social services, cardiopulmonary and infection control staff members work closely together to ensure patients get the best care possible.
“The Joint Academy provides an opportunity for our patients to interact with multiple specialties to ensure they understand their procedure and post-op course to facilitate a collaborative plan of care,” explained Kathy Schafer, Senior Director of Surgical Services and Cardiology.
The first Tuesday of each month, patients and their families gather in the Private Dining Room where they are provided with educational information and guidance in navigating the health care system in preparation for their surgery. Everything from what to expect the day of the surgery, pain management and home exercise programs are covered. Patients also have the opportunity to ask questions of our KSB team. The Joint Academy offers important education for our patients, giving them a better understanding of the surgical process with the goal of providing them with a stress-free procedure.
